Only We Have Changed 9/1 Friday Faith
The meetings [the Azusa Revival, 1906-1909] were controlled by the Spirit, from the throne. Those were truly wonderful days. I often said that I would rather live six months at that time than fifty years of ordinary life. But God is just the same today. Only we have changed.

The Road of Apostasy 8/30 Thursday Thoughts
The apostasy of the early church came as a result of a greater desire to see the spread of its power and rule than to see new natures given to its individual members. The moment we covet a large following and rejoice in the crowd that is attracted by our presentation of what we consider truth, and have not a greater desire to see the natures of individuals changed according to the divine plan, we start to travel the same road of apostasy.

A Perfect Church 8/30 Wednesday Wisdom
He who sets out to find a perfect church, in which there are no unworthy elements and no disfigurations, proposes to himself a hopeless task.

We Must Have the Revival 8/29 Tuesday Truth
John Wesley himself once prayed, after the revival had about died out for the time, "Oh, Lord, send us the old revival, wihtout the defects; but if this cannot be, send it with all its defects. We must have the revival!"

Only Through Prayer 8/28 Monday Meditation
Human organizations and human programs leave very little room for the free Spirit of God. ... The prayer life is needed much more than buildings or organizations. These are often a substitute for the other. Souls are born into the kingdom only through prayer.

Faith for Better Things 8/25 Friday Faith
When we began to pray in the spring of 1905, no one seemed to have much faith for anything out of the ordinary. Pessimism in regard to the then-present conditions seemed to be felt generally among the saints. But this attitude had changed. God Himself had given us faith for better things. There had been nothing in sight to stimulate us to this. It came from nothing. And can He not do the same today?

The Depth of Revival 8/24 Thursday Thoughts
The depth of revival will be determined exactly by the depth of the spirit of repentance.

Easier to Criticize 8/23 Wednesday Wisdom
I found most Christians did not want to take on a burden of prayer. It was too hard on the flesh. I was carrying this burden now in ever increasing volume, night and day. The ministry was intense... Most believers find it easier to criticize than to pray.

Live in Fellowship with God 8/22 Tuesday Truth
We need a closer, personal, vital relationship, acquaintance, and communion with God. Only the man who lives in fellowship with divine reality can be used to call the people to God.

New Series --- Frank Bartleman 8/21 Monday Meditation
Today I begin a new series of quotes from Frank Bartleman's classic book, Azusa Street. I last quoted him in 2020. Bartleman was the historian of the Azusa Revival, which started in Los Angeles in 1906-1909, and marked the start of the worldwide Pentecostal movement.
Some churches are going to be surprised to find God passing them by. He will work in channels where they will yield to Him. They must humble themselves to Him to come... Some people are too well satisfied with their own goodness. They have little faith or interest for the salvation of others. God will humble them by passing them by. The Spirit is breathing prayer through us for a mighty, general outpouring. Great things are coming... The Lord will visit those willing to yield to Him.

Fortunes in Our Bibles 8/18 Friday Faith
A NEW SERIES begins on Monday.
"Many of us have fortunes in our Bibles without knowing it, or without using our infinite resources. The Holy Spirit is given to us to be used for every sort of need; and yet, with all the power of heaven at our call, many of us are going about in starvation, simply because we do not know our treasure, and do not use our redemption rights."

I Am With You 8/17 Thursday Thoughts
I've been posting miscellaneous quotes for two weeks. Get ready for a NEW SERIES starting Monday.
Christ did not say, "I will be with you alway." That would have suggested a break. He said, "I am" -- an unchanging now, a presence never withdrawn, a love, a nearness, a power to heal and save as constant and as free as ever, even unto the end of the world. "Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever." (Hebrews 13:8)

Not Apologizing 8/16 Wednesday Wisdom
In those early centuries of Christianity, Christianity did not go into the world apologizing. It went to slay the powers of darkness and undo the works of the devil, and it lived in holy triumph.

Overflowing All the Time 8/15 Tuesday Truth
“Oh, I am sure that it is our privilege not to be half full, but to be filled to overflowing, and that all the time, and the overflowing rivers will then be poured out to a thirsty, lost world.”

We Have a Big God 8/14 Monday Meditation
So many people have nervous trouble. I'll tell you how to get rid of your nervous trouble. I have something in my bag, one dose of which will cure you. "... I am the Lord that healeth thee" (Exodus 15:26). How this wonderful Word of God changes the situation. "...Perfect love casteth out fear..." (I John 4:18). "There is no fear in love..." (v. 18). I have tested that so often, casting out the whole condition of fear and the whole situation has been changed. We have a big God, only He has to be absolutely and only trusted.

Whatever We Do For Jesus 8/11 Friday Faith
God has left the glorious work of saving souls in the hands of the church. What is the church composed of? Men, women, and children. We are putting up a building of God. Everyone has a part in this building; if we cannot be a pillar or cornerstone, let us be a spike or a nail or a brick; let us not despise the day of small things. Whatever we do for Jesus, with the right motive, is precious in His sight.

Every Day Advancing 8/10 Thursday Thoughts
Don't forget that every day must be a day of advancement. If you have not made any advancement since yesterday, in a measure you are a backslider. There is only one way for you between Calvary and the glory, and it is forward. It is every day forward. It is no day back. it is advancement with God. It is cooperation with Him in the Spirit.

The Shortest Route 8/9 Wednesday Wisdom
“The Word of God well understood and religiously obeyed is the shortest route to spiritual perfection. And we must not select a few favorite passages to the exclusion of others. Nothing less than a whole Bible can make a whole Christian."

Nothing Out of the Ordinary 8/8 Tuesday Truth
December 8, 1910
... At the tabernacle service Thursday night, it was a very sweet service with nothing out of the ordinary. Mrs. Arlow of Whurter, instantly healed of violent internal inflammation!
-- John G. Lake
[An instant healing was "nothing out of the ordinary"! How little the power in today's church, by comparison.

God, Limited 8/7 Monday Meditation
I have completed the quotations from E.W. Kenyon's Advanced Bible Studies. I am going to return to some old favorites for a few days or weeks until I start quoting from another Pentecostal Pioneer.
Have you been to Canada? Do you know when I went to Canada for the first time there was one thing that struck me peculiarly? The signs would read, "John Brown, Ltd." ...
I was holding meetings in the old St. Andrews Church in Sidney. I asked them one night why they did not put their national symbol on their churches. They wondered what I meant. I said, "Every other business house is 'Ltd.' Why don't you put it over the church?"
And old Scotchman said, "We don't have to . Everybody knows it."
Limited? Sure it is limited. Limit God, limit ourselves, limit His grace, limit the Word. Sure, our God is a little bit of a God. Most of us could carry Him in our vest pocket and it wouldn't budge the pocket -- our God with the "Ltd." on Him.
Brother, sister, that challenge comes to us today to LET GOD LOOSE.

He and His Word Are One 8/4 Friday Faith
We must realize that He and His Word are one; that man's word is a dying word; and that God's Word is a living, abiding Word. The most cultured and beautiful sermon is dead as soon as it is given unless it is filled with the Word.
-- E.W. Kenyon.

I Am and I Can 8/3 Thursday Thoughts
Just as Jesus dared to say, "I am the vine, and ye are the branches"; or, "I am the light of this world"; you say, "I am what He says I am." More than even that, you can say, "I can do what He says I can do."
Philippians 4:13, "I can do all things in him who strengtheneth me."

Face Your Enemy Without Fear 8/2 Wednesday Wisdom
You were crucified with Him. You were buried with Him. You were raised with Him. You conquered the enemy with Him.
Now, with faith planted solidly upon this foundation, you face your enemy without fear. You dare to say, "I am the righetousness of God in Christ."
-- E. W. Kenyon
