LEP'S FAITH QUOTES: Sukkot -- The Feast of Tabernacles 10/17 Thursday Thoughts Sukkot, or The Feast of Tabernacles, began at sundown Wednesday evening, Oct. 16, 2024, and continues for seven days. It is the seventh and final festival, in the seventh month, lasts seven days, and required 70 sacrifices. This festival commemorates the 40 years that the Hebrew people wandered in the wilderness and lived in booths (tabernacles), or flimsy temporary dwellings. During this festival Jewish families each build and decorate a sukkah outdoors and spend a lot of time in it. It is a joyful festival, and it is the only festival in which God commanded joy. For Christian believers today, it represents our earthly temporary home and the joyful anticipation of the spiritual rest in the heavenly Kingdom. It was during this festival (John 7:37), during the elaborate water-pouring ceremony, that Jesus announced that He is the Living Water (John 7:37-39) It was at this festival, with its nighttime illumination ceremony, that Jesus said that He is the Light of the World (John 8:12; 9:5) For those who study the Scriptures in the light of the Hebrew culture, there are several clues that Jesus may have been born during Sukkot. Jesus is the fulfillment of Yom Kippur. By His blood sacrifice He has taken away our sins once and for all so that sacrifices are no longer needed. No longer do we need to "hope" that our sins have been forgiven. For Christians, Yom Kippur can be a day of repentance and also of thankfulness for the atonement that Jesus made for our sins.

Perhaps you have seen this holiday printed on a calendar and didn't have any idea of its significance. This biblically-mandated holy day begins at sundown on Tishri 1, 5785 (October 2, 2024). God spoke in Leviticus 23:23 Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 24 “Speak to the children of Israel, saying: ‘In the seventh month, on the first day of the month, you shall have a sabbath-rest, a memorial of blowing of trumpets, a holy convocation. 25 You shall do no customary work on it; and you shall offer an offering made by fire to the Lord.’ ” This is the only one of the seven biblical festivals for which no reason is given. The true reason for this festival becomes apparent only in the New Testament when we learn of the blowing of "the last trumpet" when Jesus returns. What is the significance for Christians? What coming event does it foreshadow? The Torah commands the Jewish people to blow the shofar on this day as a memorial, but it does not indicate what the blowing of the shofar symbolizes. The annual blast of the shofar during the Feast of Trumpets foreshadows that day when the heavens will be rent by the blast of Messiah's trumpet. For disciples of the Messiah, Rosh Hashanah is a reminder of that appointed time yet to come when the Master "will send forth His angels with a great trumpet and they will gather together His elect from the four winds, from one end of the sky to the other" (Matthew 24:31). It is a day on which we anticipate the coming judgment, the trumpets of the book of Revelation, and the beginning of the end. It is a glimpse of the future, a shadow cast through time. He wants us to know that we have His ability, that II Corinthians 3:4,5 is ours, written especially for us. Jesus was the first person ever born again. He was born twice. He was born of the virgin Mary; then on the cross He was made sin with our sin, as our Substitute. Then after He had satisfied the claims of justice, He was justified in spirit, made righteous in spirit, and made alive in spirit. This was the new birth. That is the reason that you have in Acts 13:33: "Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee," speaking of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus. This scripture wonderfully helped me to understand the substitutionary work of Jesus. He had actually become sin, was forsaken of God, a curse because He had hung upon the tree. There must be something wrong with us when we try to believe what He says. Let's stop all that baby business. God Becomes My Righteousness 3/1 Friday Faith

God automatically, when you confess Jesus and accept Him as your Lord, becomes your righteousness. And the moment that God becomes your righteousness, that moment your standing is like the standing of the Son of God. For years I hunted for this thing I have given you tonight. That ounces of unfitness and unworthiness (or as they call it in psychology, that inferiority complex) swamped me. But when I saw that God became my righteousness I said, "I want you to know, Satan, that you have lost your case." I know what I am now. If Jesus Rose 2/29 Thursday Thoughts

I want to make a few deductions. What are the implications if Jesus Christ rose from the dead? What then? Here are three things. We know He is the Son of God. We know that "He died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and rose again for our justification" (Rom. 4:25, 1 Cor. 15:3-4, para.) We know that every man who accepts Jesus Christ, God redeems that man, and know that Romans 3:26 is true: "That he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus." -- John G. Lake.

I tell you, beloved, it was not necessary for people to be dominated by evil, nor by evil spirits. Instead of being dominated, Christians should exercise dominion and control other forces. The man with Christ in him, the Holy Ghost, is greater than any other power in the world. All other natural and evil powers are less than God; even Satan himself is a lesser power. Man with God in him is greater than Satan. That is the reason that God says to the believer, he shall cast out devils. (see Mark 16:17) "Greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world." A Fleck of Dirt 2/12 Monday Meditation

One day my Reo car stopped right in traffic. A young lady sat with Mrs. Lake and she said, "Let me try it." She worked the accelerator and it wouldn't work. She said, "Wait a moment." I jumped out of the car and I raised the hood. She said, "I can tell you where it is." She just opened up the distributor, and she said, "One of those points has got a fleck of dirt on it." She brushed it off with her handkerchief and put it on again. The car started right off. That point of the distributor had some little dust, something under it, some little corroding some way that just broke the current and it was a delicate little thing, it didn't take much. It doesn't take much to break the connection of your spirit and His. God is a Spirit. You are a spirit. And something breaks the connection and the power no longer flows through. --John G. Lake

The devil sure will get them." You believe the devil is bigger than God. Your God is about one-and-a-half inches high, and the devil is one-and-a-half feet high.
