This coming Sunday is the Christian celebration of Pentecost, called Shavuot in the Old Testament. To the Hebrews Shavuot celebrated the wheat harvest and the giving of the Ten Commandments. To Christians Pentecost celebrates the giving of the Holy Spirit and the resulting harvest of souls. There are many parallels more parallels of how Shavuot foreshadowed Pentecost.
We will be having a traditional celebration of Shavuot at the Friday night service at Beit Ahavah Messianic Congregation. Email me if you would like more information. If you ever wanted to dance the hora around the sanctuary (optional), here's your chance! And if you like to eat a meal of sweets afterwards! (Cheesecake is the tradition.)
My ministry partner and I will follow up Pentecost by teaching on the Baptism of the Holy Spirit and speaking in tongues Monday night at Beit Ahavah. Email for more information or for a link to our hand-out.
In Acts 1:8 we read: "But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you..." Oh, the power of the Holy Ghost! the power that quickens, that reveals, and prevails! I love to think that Jesus wanted all His people to have power, that He wanted all men to be overcomers. Nothing but this power will do it. Power over sin, power over sickness, power over the devil, power over all the powers of the devil!
